About Interstellar Search
Interstellar Search is a metasearch engine, aggregating the results of other search engines while not storing information about its users.
Why use it?
- Interstellar Search may not offer you as personalized results as Google, but it doesn’t generate a profile about you.
- Interstellar Search doesn’t care about what you search for, never shares anything with a third-party, and can’t be used to compromise you.
If you do care about privacy, want to be a conscious user, or otherwise believe in digital freedom, make Interstellar Search your default search engine!
How do I set it as the default search engine?
Interstellar Search supports OpenSearch. For more information on changing your default search engine, see your browser’s documentation:
- Firefox
- Microsoft Edge - Behind the link, you will also find some useful instructions for Chrome and Safari.
- Chromium-based browsers only add websites that the user navigates to without a path.
When adding a search engine, there must be no duplicates with the same name. If you encounter a problem where you cannot add the search engine, you can either:
- Remove the duplicate (default name: Interstellar Search) or
- Contact the owner to give the instance a different name from the default.
How does it protect my privacy?
- No profiling. There’s no account, no saved search history, and no behavioral profile built up about you between searches.
- The search engines never see you. Your query is sent out to other search engines from this server, not from your browser – sites like Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo see a request from Interstellar Search mixed in with everyone else’s traffic, never your IP address, browser fingerprint, or cookies.
- No tracking cookies. Interstellar Search doesn’t set advertising or
analytics cookies, and strips tracking parameters (like
utm_*orfbclid) from result links before they reach you. - Optional image proxying. When enabled, images in results are fetched through this server too, so the original host never sees your IP address either.
The stats page shows anonymous, aggregate performance statistics about the engines used – never anything tied to an individual search or user.
